Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865 Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated. Important D.S. 1p. folio on parchment, Washington, Mar. 16, 1863, a partly-printed military appointment of Frank S. Nickerson to the rank of Brigadier General. Frank S. Nickerson 1826-1917 was cited by Oliver Otis Howard for his gallantry leading the 4th Maine at First Bull Run, and later won honors for his efforts in repulsing Brcckinridge's attack on Baton Rouge and in the Red River campaign. One long tear into text only has been expertly repaired and is quite unnoticeable, otherwise only slight fold wear and soiling. Lincoln and co- signer Edwin Stanton's signatures are dark. Framed.
