ABRAHAM C. MYERS
(1811-1889) Confederate quartermaster general and the highest-ranking Jewish confederate officer in the Civil War. Rare war-date manuscript L.S. ‘A. C. Myers' 1p. 4to., Richmond, June 2, 1863, on letterhead of the Quartermaster General's Office to Confederate Brigadier General William McLaughlin, in part: ‘…Your return of money and property for the 3rd & 4th qrs 1862 have been placed to your debit on the book of this office. Being now out of the service they will in a few days be taken up for examination of the results of which you will be duly apprised…'. McLaughlin (1821-1875) served as John B. Echols' chief of artillery and was present at Bull Run and Kernstown, earning that general's commendation. Signature a tad faint, otherwise very good condition, with the original blue transmittal cover.
