Great grouping of three classified reports from the commander of the 306th Engineers Regiment Thatcher T. P. Luquer, whose regiment served Meuse-Argonne offensive, each containing preparations for the offensive shortly before war's end. The grouping includes: Nov. 3 report from the Intelligence Section of the Stonewall Division, 3pp. 4to., providing information about the division and the opposing army, in part: '...This front is a long one - about 23 kilometers...A great deal of gas is used on this front, particularly mustard...situated on the ridge of a hill, the Boche [German army] throws mustard gas on the northern and eastern sides, and the air currents suck it across the ridge through the trenches...it is difficult to detect it until it is too late...it is almost impossible to use the mask...on this front the enemy is very nervous, and appears to be expecting an attack towards Metz...our barrage signal is known to the enemy...the army so far has refused to allow the signal to be changed. Enemy aircraft are very active...' Sold with seven other printed pages, dated Nov. 1st to 2nd, 1918, including a cipher for localities and points of importance as well as a lengthy report on signals and codes for both infantry units and airplanes, includes: 'Objective reached Caterpillar fusee... Request for barrage Rocket, 3 white stars...We are going to advance, lengthen the fire Rocket, 1 green star...anti-tank cannon at this point Yellow smoke...' Sold with a field-marked map of the Tonnerre region of France,33.5 x 22.5 in., bearing the hand-pencilled positions of the 316th, 318th, and 321st Divisions and adding a large circle around the region of Tronchoy with the letters 'E & F' at center. Very worn, with numerous splits along original folds, in need of restoration. Sold with two clearly worn and presumed battle-used map of the Troyes region of France, each unmarked and in very poor condition, one since vertically split down the center.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
