Description: A. OAKLEY HALL
(1826 - 1898) American politician, attorney and author. Mayor of New York from 1869 to 1872 and was allegedly part of the notorious "Tweed Ring." Early A.L.S. 1p. 4to., [New York], Aug. 27, 1849 to Charles and Frank Moore, two sons of Jacob Bailey Moore (1797 - 1853), author and the first postmaster of San Francisco, California. Hall updates the brothers on personal news and announces his impending nuptials. He writes, in part: "...I have been very well, & have been summering as well as simmering all August in the country. By about the time you get this or soon after I expect to become a married man-- James will turn me off - & George as groomsman witness... Imagine you have a lock of my hair & drink about the 1st of November to my health and happiness. I saw Learm [?] a day or two since she buttoned holed me in the street to deliver a Eulogy on Charlie -- enquire after him & request remembrances, which are herewith enclosed..." with integral address leaf. Moderate dampstains, usual folds, chipping at right margin, else very good.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
