Description:

A NAMED GERMAN OFFICER'S DAGGER
OWNED BY HANS WOLFGANG SCHOCH, A DEFENDER OF THE GERMAN LINES AT ANZIO Outstanding German army officer's double-engraved dress dagger by SMF, named to a highly-respected recipient of the Iron Cross, First Class and the Spange, 2nd Class This high-quality dress dagger features a distinct, custom "elfenbein" grip attractively aged. The pommel is untouched, with the oak leaves distinct and sharply detailed with the stipled background dark and fully contrasted. The eagles, wreath and quillons of the crossguard retain virtually all of their original detail, the wreath being absolutely pristine. The lower crossguard has also been engraved with the the officer's name: "Schoch" on the reverse. The blade, double engraved in the "Voos pattern", is also untouched and it retains a needle-like point. The scabbard fittings likewise retain almost all of their original detail unaffected by time and wear, though there is some slight anodizing of the body of the scabbard where the fittings are attached, and some oxidation on unworked areas. The scabbard is free of dents and completely straight. The matching deluxe army officer dagger hanger is also present, and a portepee is properly tied to the grip. This dagger is attributed to Oberst Hans Wolfgang Schoch, born 1898 in Munich. His service record notes his position as Kommandur Jager Rgt. 741 which was heavily involved in the defense of the Anzio-Nettuna beachhead in Italy. Schoch also served with a Panzer corps in Normandy, and fought partisans in Croatia. He ended the war defending the south Tirol against determined American attacks. One of the finest daggers we've seen. Schoch's service records accompany the lot.
