In part: ‘…Soon it will be 12 midnight; we have been together with [Fritz] Weitzel and [Siegfried] Taubert over a glass of wine in the hall. Before I…sleep, I must write you a few lines for the time when you woke me up on Sunday…The lines can bring you just a tiny piece of my very great and happy love, and will express to you many good thoughts, and greetings for tonight and for Sunday morning and forever…'. In 1939 Himmler began an affair with Hedwig Potthast, who bore him two children.
