Description:

9TH PENNSYLVANIA CAVALRY CHASES CONFEDERATE GENERAL JOSEPH WHEELER
Good content A.L.S. in pencil, 1p. 4to., Dunlap Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee, Sep. 3, 1864, from Lieutenant Isaac Landis of the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry to his parents. In part: "I now hasten to pencil you a few lines to relieve you of anxiety on our accounting. We left Chattanooga, Tenn on Tuesday for a scout after [Confederate cavalry general Jospeh] Wheeler who is making another Extensive raid. We crossed Walloon''s Ridge yesterday and must cross the Cumberland today on our way to McMinnville and are about sending or transportation back to Chattanooga all excepting 3 or 4 wagons. I do not think we will meet with Wheeler as has too much the start of us. We picked up one man, a straggler..." Landis signs at the conclusion. Shows original mailing folds, with some chips and toning to the edges, else very good. Landis would serve in the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry for almost the entire war, from October 1862 until July 1865, receiving wounds in Georgia in November of 1864.
