Description:

93RD INFANTRY (COLORED) DIVISION TUNIC
Rare World War I 93rd Infantry Division wool tunic, bears four scalloped pockets and 'U.S.' and Infantryman's collar devices. The left sleeve has a theater-made 93rd Infantry division shoulder patch hand-sewn thereto, with a red discharge stripe and an overseas stripe handsewn further down the sleeve. A 'marksman's' patch is also sewn to the right sleeve, and a World War I Victory Medal ribbon with bronze star device is pinned to the left breast. Only a few very small moth holes to the front of the tunic, the reverse much more so. Still, very good. The 93rd Infantry Division was a 'colored' segregated unit of the United States Army in World War I. Its regiments fought primarily under French command and saw action during the Second Battle of the Marne. Total casualties from all regiments were 3,167, with 523 killed in action and 2,644 wounded. The 93rd Division had two Medal of Honor recipients—Lt. George S. Robb and Cpl. Freddie Stowers—75 Distinguished Service Crosses and 527 Croix de Guerre medals.
