82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION NORMANDY INVASION AFTER-ACTION MAP
Fine war-date after-action map, 40" x 23 1/2", tracking the movements of the U.S. Army''s 82nd Airborne Division during the invasion of Normandy, beginning with their capture of the village of Ste. Mere Eglise early on the morning of June 6th, 1944. The map then charts their movements through Normandy through to their being placed in reserve on July 11, with each of the four regiments in the field denoted by a colored arrow. Each major action is described in detail, including engagements with the enemy at the Merderet River, the Beuzeville-La Bastile, Etienville and Ste. Sauveur le Vicomte bridgeheads, and more. In many cases, the identity, strength and casualties of the opposing German forces, as well as the losses suffered by the 82nd. An inset map of the greater Cotentin Peninsula, showing the approach routes used by the transport aircraft and gliders of the 82nd during Operation Overlord, as well as an overall idea of their area of operations. The map is dated Oct. 10, 1944 at top, and is also marked "Secret". The printing line at bottom left indicates that it was printed by the 660th Engineers. Shows original folds with slight chips to the edges, with cello tape remnants on the verso, else very good.
