Good pair of items signed by notable Confederate officers of the 2nd Virginia Cavalry, includes: SAMUEL J. C. MOORE (1826-1908) Confederate colonel, Assistant Adjutant General to Stonewall Jackson and later chief of staff to Jubal A. Early, severely wounded at the Wilderness. War-date manuscript D.S. ‘Saml J. C. Moore', 1p. oblong 8vo., [n.p.], Oct. 18, 1864, detailing a Corporal James Hopkins of the 2nd Regt. Virginia Cavalry ‘Wickham's Brigade' to return home for a fresh horse, by order of Lt. Gen. Early. Moore signs at the conclusion in black ink. Bears several endorsements on the verso, including one signed in black ink by HENRY C. LEE (1842-1889), brother of Gen. Fitzhugh Lee and assistant adjutant general to brigade commander Williams. C. Wickham. Shows folds overall, with some chips to the edges, else very good. WITH: ROBERT F. MASON (1834-1902), Confederate major, aide-de-camp to Fitzhugh Lee, briefly commanded the 15th Virginia cavalry. War-date A.D.S. ‘R F Mason', 1p. oblong 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 30, 1864, detailing an R. Mead of the 2nd Virginia Cavalry to return home for a fresh horse, by order of Maj. Gen. Lee. Mason signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows folds, with toning and foxing overall, else very good.
