Description:

Good group of three World War II ‘souvenir' maps, showing the advance of the First United States Army and two of its attendant Army Corps, the XII and XIX Corps, through Europe and into Germany. The First Army map, 22 x 20 in., features the insignia of its contributing divisions around the border and at the sides of the map, with brief narratives of several of its most notable engagements at the top, including the Normandy Invasion, the capture of Paris, the assault on the Siegfried Line, the Battle of the Bulge, and the crossing of the Rhine. The XII Corps map, 29 x 22 in., similarly bears a roster of notable battles along the right side. The XIX Corps map, 29 x 22 in., covers specifically the Corps advance from the Siegfried Line into Germany, and features numerous monochrome vignettes of notable scenes along the way, including the factories of the Ruhr pocket, the ruined city of Aachen, surrendering German soldiers, and a meeting between American and Soviet troops at Wittenburg. Each map shows folds with some slight toning, else very good. Three pieces.
