Description:

Original and very rare printer's proof set of cards created to commemorate the 1939 Nuremberg rally, notably cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II. The 19.5 in x 21.5 in. card stock sheet features three vibrant rows of five different cards (15 total), each 4 in. x 5.5 in. Scenes on the cards include the layout of the rally area at Nuremberg, German soldiers standing in front of a Nazi eagle, a Hitler Youth hoisting a Nazi flag, a flag in front of a castle, and finally NSDAP flags in front of the Reichstag. These cards were never circulated nor cut from the original sheet. The back of the stock sheet features an unknown printed painting with the signature of Hungarian artist Hans Bogojevic, likely overprinted due to paper shortages so as not to waste paper. Sight tears to the edges with some image loss to the right-most three cards, light damp-stain at lower corner, else very good. Encapsulated. The 1939 Nuremberg Rally, scheduled for September 2nd to 11th, was given the name 'Rally of Peace' to prove to European nations that Germany wished to avoid war… ironically, Germany began its offensive against Poland one day before the event, igniting World War II and leading to its cancellation.
