Description:

1935 HITLER YOUTH CALENDAR WITH RACE AND ANTI-SEMITIC TEXT
Frightening content Hitler Youth-oriented publication: "Calendar of the German Youth 1935" (Hamburg: Verlag Bamberger), [1934]. 304pp. 8vo. The first 100 pages contain space for notes, along with historic biographical sketches and "on this day" notes. The balance of the book is dedicated to the indoctrination of the young reader. A large amount of text is dedicated to an explanation of National Socialism, its history and symbols, insignia, etc., along with chapters on the Hitler Youth, and German history, technology, education and culture. Of particular concern are two chapters, 32pp. total, titled "Race and Heredity" and "Antisemitism". The former, with a photo portrait of racial theorist Dr. Hans F. K. Gunther, discusses maintaining the purity of bloodlines, the distribution of various races worldwide, and reproduces in a two-page photograph illustrations of various German "races" who are contrasted with a smirking "Jew". This chapter even includes a section for the diligent youth to trace his family's bloodline and fill it in in the form and chart provided. The "Antisemitic" chapter bears a photo of notorious "Der Sturmer" publisher Julius Streicher dressed in the uniform of an adult Hitler Youth leader. His statement to the readers, headed "The Jews", exhorts the young readers: "…The German Nationalist obeys the life-laws of his nation…No law is too tough, too hard…You must strictly follow the rule, for the life of your nation…you want to have the race purity of your people and you want to defend it…blood degeneration will kill off your nation and leave it forgotten…fight the influence of foreign blood…that is your 'must'…" This chapter concludes with about 25 quotations uttered by Germans over the centuries condemning or criticizing the Jews. Incredible indoctrination content. Fine.
