Description:

1930S ANTI-SEMITIC NSDAP POSTER
A fine original NSDAP propaganda poster, 37 x 25 in., printed in black ink on pink stock. Undated but ca. 1931, it reads in part: ‘…Did we not insult everyone who said something against the Jews in our briefing? Didn't we even have a Zionists meeting in Berlin protected by the Reichsbanner? Did we not vote for the Dawes Plan at the time, which undoubtedly benefitted international finance? Didn't we vote for the Young Plan, even though the Hitler fascists showed this would case more misery…When Jacob Goldschmidt bought Danat-Bank, didn't we immediately and most generously grant hundreds of millions to the banks?...The Papenist economic emergency ordinance through the newly-created stock exchange papers called tax vouchers primarily benefits the banks…Goldschmidt expressly approved the new program when asked by Papen. There are witnesses to this.' Naturally, this poster weaves together a narrative in which Jews are to blame for Germany's financial crisis following the Dawes and Young reparations plans, and the international alarm about of the rise of the NSDAP. German-Jewish banker Jakob Goldschmidt exercised great control over Weimar-era economic affairs and later became the senior partner of Danatbank, the second largest bank in the Reich. When Danat collapsed in 1931, Goldschmidt appealed personally to the government for assistance. Danat was absorbed by Dresdenbank, and Goldschmidt became a favorite target of Nazi propaganda, with Goebbels positioning him as the archetypal ‘enemy' Jewish financier. A couple of small marginal chips, one fold tear reinforced with tape on verso, otherwise very good.
