80. 18TH CENTURY INDIAN TRADE AXE An excellent Colonial-era relic, a hand-forged iron trade axe typically traded to Indians in New England in exchange for furs or simply for goodwill. The axe measures 11 1/2" long x 4 1/2" wide at its broadest point, with a hole in the handle for hanging from a peg. This example was recovered in northern New York State. De-accessed from the Thebert Collection and still bearing the collection's identifying number painted on the iron shaft. Very good condition. $300-400
