1859 CAMP JUNIATA BROADSIDE
A rare Union "General Orders" broadside printed on light blue stock, 1p. legal folio, Lewistown, Sept. 19, 1859, by command of Maj. Gen. William H. Keim. Keim (1813-1861) was an Indian fighter and one of the first of the Union major generals to be KIA. The broadside explains the duties of encampment at Juniata from morning gun at 6:00am to "...all lights extinguished" at 11am. Other duties include: written reporting by officers at 8am, grand parade at 10am and "Tattoo. Countersign given to the Sentinels on Post" at 10pm. Moderate waterstaining to right margin with resulting pink tinge, lightening at folds, overall very good.
