Description:

1849 RIVERBOAT LETTER
A good early riverboat letter, 1p. folio, Franklin, Apr. 29, 1849 written by Benjamin Stowe to his brother, in part: "This morning…a young Mr. Cook came aboard on his way from Pittsburg…the river is very low. We have had a pilot thus far and have got along without any trouble. We have had another boat alongside in which was Warren and the Doct, but the Doct has left and gone on a keel boat to Pittsburg. Warren is selling well here…we have…unloaded tolerable well so far. I saw Mr. Price, before I came away, the man who built the boat and was taking with him about your working wit him this summer…if you want to get a chance at the Carpenter's position you can see him. He lives in the second house above Torry Wellngton's…". Very good.
