Description:
1598 PERUVIAN MERCANTILE DOCUMENT Manuscript D.S. in Spanish from Diego de Herrera, 2pp., folio, [Spain?], February 7, 1598 to Juan La Plata, owner of the trading vessel "San Francisco". Herrera promises to pay La Plata 576 pesos of silver for nine quintales of dried fish purchased in Chile, with an agreement to pay in October. Boldly signed by both parties. Moderate wear on all edges and minor ink bleeding, else fine. This lot provides an interesting glimpse into a 16th century Spain making full use of the seas to expand its international mercantile goals.
