100 POUNDER DYER PROJECTILE FROM ISLAND NO. 10
Fine 100 pounder Dyer shell used at Island No. 10 (New Madrid) bearing a full sabot and excellent rifling. The Dyer shell was a "case" or shrapnel shell for use against infantry. The internal construction is basically the same as spherical case but in an elongated projectile. The shell was patented by U.S. Army Officer Alexander Byrdie Dyer, a West Point graduate and who was put in charge of the Springfield Armory in August 1861. He later became the Chief of Ordnance and was promoted to brigadier general in September 1864. Requires third-party shipping. Please see Terms and Conditions of Sale.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
