Description:

‘THE VICTORY OF LIFE: READINGS ON RACIAL STUDIES'
An original copy of the Nazi anti-Semitic children's booklet ‘The Victory of Life: Readings on Racial Studies' by Martin Staemmler (Berlin: Publisher for Social Ethics and Art Cultivation, n.d. but ca. 1935), 33pp. 8vo. softbound. Staemmler was a professor of pathology at the University of Gottingen before joining the NSDAP in 1931 and becoming director of the Pathological-Hygiene Department at Chemnitz. He also worked for the NSDAP's racial policy office. This volume contains the Nazi theme of natural selection in the form of rather grim fairy tale-like stories for children which revolve around tyranny, sickness, death, and so forth. It concludes with a chapter illustrated with Nazi soldiers and Hitler Youth marching, entitled ‘What Can We Learn From These Stories' and reads, in very small part: ‘…The individual is often destroyed, killed, eaten up…In this we see the principle of nature: it is not the individual that counts, but the preservation of the species…Much is born in nature that is good, but also very much that which is bad, weak and sick, and which is not the way God wants his species to be…Now medicine has a different task…Only the healthy [should be] allowed to marry and have children…Above all, we don't want our German blood to be mixed with foreign blood…'. Front cover detached, back cover also for the most part, otherwise very good.
