(‘THE LONGEST DAY')
DARYL F. ZANUCK (1902-1979) American film producer, a three-time Academy Award winner while at 20th Century Fox. Superb content T.L.S. ‘Daddy' 1p. 4to., Paris, Dec. 15, 1961 on the letterhead of one of his most famous films, ‘The Longest Day', to his daughter ‘Mrs. J. Pineda' in Acapulco, Mexico, sending a check for Christmas presents for her and her family. In part: ‘…I'm sorry I could not have gone out and bought some things for you and particularly for the children, but I have never been so occupied in my life. We have been shooting THE LONGEST DAY now for seven months and we still have two months to go…My plans for Acapulco are still okay, and I am definitely coming before the season ends. When I know the completion date of the film, I will cable you…'. Quite wrinkled, otherwise very good. Zanuck's 1962 film ‘The Longest Day' was based on Cornelius Ryan's non-fiction book of the same name about the D-Day landings in Normandy. It had a star-studded cast and was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning for Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects.
