Description:

‘FRANCE FOREVER' REPORTS ON VE-DAY
Original issue of the weekly publication ‘News of France at War' by the organization France Forever, 8pp. 4to., New York, May 12, 1945, titled ‘Europe Is Free'. The publication contains proclamations of victory from Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, Charles De Gaulle, Dwight Eisenhower, Joseph Stalin, and the ‘Berlin Act Of Unconditional Surrender'. At the close is a reminder that France is still at war from General De Gaulle, in part: ‘...Now, though the enemy capitulation brings the fighting in Europe to a close, you have new and great tasks to accomplish. You have yet to be victors, side by side with our Allies, over [the] Japanese enemy, oppressor of Indo-China, who claims to dominate Asia...'. Supplemented by brief biographical descriptions on the most notable members of the French delegation at the San Francisco Conference, which resulted in the creation of the United Nations Charter. SOLD WITH an A.L.S. on ‘French Air Force' letterhead from an unidentified cadet, 5pp. 8vo., Mar. 26, 1945, Orangeburg, South Carolina, to a close friend of his in Alabama. The cadet writes mostly of everyday life but does mention a ‘fear [of] being only peace pilots'. He seems to have a sense of humor, adding to the first page an illustration of a bird as a pilot before and after flight with an angry instructor. Accompanied by the original ‘French Air Force' envelope. Four pieces, very good.
