Description:

‘DE-NAZIFIED' HEER DOUBLE-DECAL M35 HELMET
A nice example of a German M35 combat helmet, featuring a Heer decal on the left-hand side, with a national tricolor decal on the right. Interestingly, the swastika held by the eagle on the Heer decal has been obliterated, exposing the underlying finish. This ‘de-nazification' was sometimes done to awards and insignia in the post-war period. The helmet bears a smooth, early ‘feldgrau' finish inside and out, trending more towards the ‘apple green' shade referred to by collectors. The left-hand side of the interior skirt is heat-stamped ‘E.T.64', indicating manufacture by the Eisenhuttenwerke at Thale, while the rear skirt bears the batch number ‘2097'. A very faint, illegible stamp is visible inside the crown. The helmet is fitted with a light-brown eight-finger leather liner, showing minor wear and discoloration, size-stamped ‘56' and with the name ‘1/2 K. Wolf' inscribed in black ink. The liner band is stamped as being manufactured in 1944, and the rivets securing it within the shell are slightly loose, not unusual for a late replacement. The chinstrap is brown leather, finished black on the exterior face, and with the tongue marked with a later ‘RB' manufacturer's code. The interior and exterior show oxidation spots overall, with a larger patch of oxidation to the interior of the ‘bill', otherwise in very good, attractive condition overall. SOLD AS IS.
