‘CHENNAULT'S FORGOTTEN WARRIORS'
EUGENE H. BEEB (1906-?) Brigadier general of the U.S. Army Air Force and Commander of the 308th Heavy Bombardment Group which supported Claire Chennault's 14th Air Force. Its first combat mission, led by Beeb, was launched on March 4, 1943, in which twenty-four B-24 Liberators made a daylight precision attack on targets that would become infamous 25 years later: Hanoi and Haiphong. Awarded the Legion of Merit for his service in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations. Rare, good content A.L.S. 1p. 4to., ‘China', Sept. 23, 1943, to his mother in Long Beach, CA. In part: ‘…Am enclosing a post card [no longer present] just delivered to here and picked out of the wreck of a Jap bomber. It says on the back in Chinese that the Japs are good friends of the Chinese. Since the card was carried in a plane that also had several bombs to deliver, there may be some question…'. Boldly penned and signed, with a holograph envelope signed three times. Fine condition.
