Description:

ZYKLON-B GAS FILTER AND MASK
A pair of chilling relics, includes a Czech commercial grade gas mask and a German-made filter used to protect the user from the effects of Zyklon-B, the cyanide-based pesticide used to exterminate millions in the Nazi German concentration camps of World War II. The 5" gray painted filter bears a paper label in German: "Use for Zyklon" with the red letter "J" and an expiration date of Dec. 11, 1944. The canister also bears an illegible stamped production date and a waffenamt inspection stamp. Whether the canister was used is unknown. The matching rubber gas mask was made by the Czech firm of Fatra, model S-60-37, made in 1937 with all straps and lenses intact. A leather tag with the painted number "28" is affixed to a strap at rear. When used in conjunction with the gassings of humans, soldiers and prisoners would wear these masks when clearing bodies after gassings to avoid their own accidental poisoning. Cover for one fitting on the mask is lost, some rust to canister, else very good.
