Description:

WORLD WAR II GERMAN OFFICER'S WRANGEL PATTERN SWORD BY EICKHORN
Fine Third Reich sword, 35 in. blade, 39 in. overall, for use by German Heer officers. This dove head sword is in the early ‘Wrangel' pattern produced by Solingen maker Carl Eickhorn as part of their ‘Field Marshal' series. Features a black celluloid grip tightly wrapped with triple brass wire, the center being twisted, and protected by a swelled handguard and backstrap decorated with foliate patterns, all in gilt. The gilding does show some oxidation, expected from use and age. The crossguard is decorated with a rare open-winged national eagle looking to the left rather than the more common eagle which looks to the right. The reverse side of the crossguard displays the initials ‘CW', likely those of the initial owner. The blade is very bright, showing only some pitting, easily cleaned. At the ricasso is the maker mark for ‘Eickhorn Solingen'. Housed in a black painted steel scabbard, with a single suspension ring. The majority of the paint is still intact, only displaying some minor nicks and scratches. Overall a very good example.
