WORLD WAR II COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS
Good lot of four World War II commemorative bronze table medals. Includes: Tirpitz, Norway medal commemorating the hunt for and destruction of the Tirpitz during WWII. Obverse: Legend 'Jakten pa Tirpitz' ('The Hunt for Tirpitz'), specifically Karl Rasmussen and Torstein Raaby, with Morse code dots and dashes accompanying the text around the medal and showing the two men with radio, with images of ear phones, along with a bow shot of the Tirpitz. Signed on obverse near bow with dates: '1940-1945' on a banner, with a lion rampant within 'V' surrounded by oak leaf clusters. At top of medal: 'Kampen for Frihet' ('The Fight for Freedom') Rim/edge clean. Bronze, 61mm, 110g. WITH: Commemorative medal of Jan Grundzinski, 1907-1940, captain of the Polish submarine 'Orzel' lost on patrol May 23, 1940. Obverse: legend: '1907 Komandor Por. Jan Grudzinski 1940'. Reverse: legend: 'Orp 'Orzel' 2 Lutego 1939-8 Czerwca 1940', surrounding image of the submarine, with date 1990. There are two unreadable signatures, one below the sub and one below the date, 1990. Grudzinski, commanding officer of the Orzel, became the first Pole of the Second World War to be decorated with the highest Polish decoration for bravery. Rim/edge: clean, bronze, 69 cm. WITH: Commodore Georges Timmermans medal, Obverse: a portrait bust of the commodore facing left. Legend: 'Commordore Georges Timmermans DSC'. Reverse: Center: '26-4-1899 (and) 31-3-1969'. Juno Beach 6-6-1944' Legend: "For Gallantry and Skill Shown During Naval Operations in World War II' Rim/edge: 'FISCH Bronze(?)' 59 mm. WITH: Battle of Oscarsborg Medal, April 9, 1940. Commemorating the fort's sinking of the German heavy
cruiser Blucher. Obverse: Central image of the commander of the Norwegian fort Oberst Birger Erikson, image of the fort, the stem of the sinking Blucher, and at the bottom two torpedoes (from the famed underwater torpedo tubes of the fort). Legend: 'Slaget ved Oscarsborg' (Battle of Oscarsborg] and 'Oberst Eriksen'. Reverse: A large 'V' surmounted by a lion rampant with dates '1940-1945' (years of occupation of Norway by Germany), two laurel leaves and legend: 'Kampen for Frihet' ('The Struggle for Freedom') Rim/edge: clean. Circular, 61mm, 110 grams, bronze. All are very good.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
