JOHN WITHERSPOON (1723 - 1794) American clergyman and Signer of the Declaration of Independence, he also was one of the organizers of the Presbyterian Church along national lines and moderated the church's first General Assembly. His endorsing signature "Jno Witherspoon" on the docket of an A.D.S. of Henry Lee, likely the father of "Light Horse" Harry Lee, 1p. oblong 12mo., [n.p.] April 1, 1775, a bill of exchange ordering payment to Witherspoon of £100. Light creases, mounted at one margin to larger sheet, else very good. $500-700
