Description:

WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 RIFLE
Lever-action Winchester Model 1892 repeating rifle, 24 1/4" barrel, 42" overall, chambered for .44-40 caliber Winchester Center Fire ammunition. The rifle features a loading gate on the right-hand side of the frame, with a capacity of 15 rounds, fed from a tubular magazine. The top of the octagonal barrel is marked: "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven. Conn. U.S.A", with the caliber "44 W.C.F" at the breech. The top tang at the wrist is inscribed: "Model 1892 Winchester Pat. Oct. 14. 1884.", and the serial number "96625" is stamped on the underside of the frame, indicating that this example was manufactured in 1895. The metal components retain almost all of their original bluing, with very light wear and minor surface scratches apparent. The walnut stock shows a few scattered handling marks and dings, with a small sliver missing from the left-hand side of the wrist where it meets the frame, but is otherwise in excellent condition. The bore is bright and unmarred, with strong rifling. An excellent example of a classic American rifle, much beloved of actors in Western films, including Steve McQueen, Chuck Connors, and John Wayne.
