WILLIAM I (1772 - 1843) King of the Netherlands who commanded the Dutch army against the French, his foreign entanglements and autocratic rule led to his loss of Belgium and eventual abdication. Printed D.S. "William", 1p., 13" x 9", Court at St. James, May 18, 1833, appointing an ensign, with an impressed blue Royal seal affixed at left and a circular crown stamp. Also signed by Lord Melbourne, both signatures somewhat faded. Mounted to a board. Very good.
