(1744 - 1833) American naval officer captured at Tripoli, and later commanded the Constitution in her victory over the Java. A.L.S. "Wm Bainbridge", 4pp., 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], to an unknown recipient. An interesting look into eighteenth-century naval life, in part: "... [I will] make a compleat set of regulations for the government of the next ship I may command...the duties of a ship of war is carried out with the greatest regularity, figuratively speaking - like the machinery of a clock...".
