Kennedy's senior thesis at Harvard, his study of Britain's timing before going to war against Hitler's Germany: "Why England Slept" [London: Hutchinson & Co.], ca. 1940. 256pp. 8vo. First Edition in UK , First impression, in publisher's original pink cloth, corners still fairly sharp but covers a bit unevenly with a few scattered spots, wartime paper is lightly toned. No dust jacket. Kennedy's father, Joseph Kennedy, originally approached Harold Laski, then Professor of Political Science at the London School of Economics, and who had taught JFK's older brother Joe, to write the forward, but he declined saying it was "the book of an immature mind; that if it hadn't been written by the son of a very rich man, he wouldn't have found a publisher." After publication in the UK and USA the book sold 80,000 copies.
