Description:

WERNER MOLDERS AND HERMANN-FRIEDRICH JOPPIEN ASSESS THE PERFORMANCE OF HEINRICH "PRITZL" BAR
Fine association partly-printed D.S., 4pp. 4to., Rosenheim {n.d., ca. January, 1941], an assessment of the performance of future Knights Cross with Oak Leaves recipient HEINRICH "PRITZL" BAR (1913-1957) by two of the most important German aces. The document's first page bears Bar's vitals, followed by two pages completed and signed by HERMANN-FRIEFRICH JOPPIEN (1912-1941). Joppien describes Bar's attendance, behavior on duty and outside, behavior before officers and peers, leadership and military abilities, etc. He recommends the man and suggests that he be used to the greatest extent. He also mentions Bar's successes in France, including 13 kills to date. The last page bears a typed recommendation signed by WERNER MOLDERS (1912-1941) dated Jan. 27, 1941 who states that he agrees with Joppien's assessment of Bar and states that Bar is fully prepared for action and has proven himself an excellent teacher of fighter pilot tactics. File holes at left margin, else fine condition. Bar would be the only one of the three to survive the war. Hermann-Friedrich Joppien would fly 270 missions, down 70 enemy aircraft and earn a Knights Cross with Oak Leaves before he would be killed in a dogfight over Russian in 1941. Molders would down 100 aircraft and receive the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds before his death as a passenger in a plane crash. As for Bar, he flew more than 1,000 missions, was shot down 18 times, was credited with 221 kills, around 16 of which were in a jet fighter.
