Description:

A fine group of items related to Wehrmacht "obergefreiter" Ulrich Janssen, including his "soldbuch", 24pp 12mo., issued July 31, 1944 and featuring his identification photo affixed inside the front cover. A list on page 22 indicates that Janssen was highly decorated, receiving the Iron Cross, First and Second Classes, the Infantry Assault Badge, the Eastern Front Medal, the Crimea Shield, the Romanian Crusade Against Communism Medal, the Wound Badge in Black, and the Close Combat Clasp in Bronze. Page 8a also bears an inscription giving him permission to carry his own personal pistol, a Ceska Zbrojovka. The soldbuch is partially split along the fabric tape-covered spine, and shows expected wear and soiling within and without, else very good. WITH: A group of five of the awards listed above, including: the Iron Cross, First Class, numbered "65" on the vertical clasp, indicating manufacture by Klein & Quenzer of Idar-Oberstein, and showing minor tarnish; the "Krim" ("Crimea") shield, affixed to a metal backing plate, slightly warped, missing an attachment pin on the verso, and showing some surface oxidation; the Close Combat Clasp in Bronze, marked "F & B L' on the verso, indicating manufacture by Funke & Bruninghaus of Ludenscheid, a dully-finished example; the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, unmarked and showing minor tarnish; and the Wound Badge in Black, marked "EH" and "126" on the reverse, indicating manufacture by Eduard Hahn of Oberstein, and showing some wear to the extremities. Six pieces overall, certainly worthy of further research!
