Description:

WEHRMACHT OFFICER'S DRESS SWORD BY ALEXANDER COPPEL
A Third Reich-era M1849 artillery-style dress sword, 32 in. blade, 37 in. overall, featuring a plated steel blade with the ricasso displaying the ‘scales' mark of maker Alexander Coppel of Solingen, or ‘ALCOSO'. The dovehead-style hilt is brightly plated, with the wood grip covered with black bakelite and wrapped with braided brass wire. A leather buffer is placed between the blade and the crossguard. The blade shows some scratches overall, with slight losses to the plating at the tip, while the hilt shows some freckling, with small cracks and a slight loss to the pommel end of the grip exposing the underlying wood. The sword is housed in a black-lacquered steel scabbard with a single stationary suspension loop, slightly bent and with a shallow dent and showing chips to the finish and spots of oxidation throughout. In very good overall condition.
