Description:

WEHRMACHT DRESS BAYONET BY CARL JULIUS KREBS
A Wehrmacht dress bayonet, 7.75 in. blade, 12.5 in. overall, with a silver-finished bird's head-style pommel fitted with a functional release catch. The grips are staghorn, with a turned-down teardrop-shaped crossguard topped with a brown leather washer. The grips are slightly loose, and the pommel and crossguard show minor scratches to the finish. The blade is plated, with the ricasso bearing the maker's mark of Carl Julius Krebs of Solingen. The blade shows draw marks, minor sharpening at the tip and probable grinding, as the maker's mark is partially obliterated. The bayonet is housed in a black-painted steel scabbard, showing some wear and scratches overall, with a black leather frog secured by a stud, bearing a very faint maker's mark and the date ‘1940' on the back of the belt loop. In very good condition overall.
