Description:

WEDDING EDITION' OF 'MEIN KAMPF', CAPTURED FROM HITLER'S STUDY
An excessively rare war souvenir, an American-captured 'wedding edition' of Adolf Hitler's 'Mein Kampf', reportedly recovered from the study of the Berghof at Obersalzburg and signed by the three American soldiers that took it. This is the standard edition, published in Munich by Franz Eher Verlag, 1942, 782pp. 8vo., with 1/4 black leather covers with raised hubs and gilt titles, the covers a bit worn and soiled. The first page bears an unengrossed presentation which would have been filled-in by the the town or city's mayor prior to presentation to the couple. Instead, the book is signed on the front paste-down by a major, captain, and a lieutenant, all members of the 157th Infantry. Elements of the 157th fought at Nuremberg and Munich, liberated Dachau, and many went through Obersalzburg. Our consigner, a 60+ year collector, acquired this item directly from Capt. John D. Goodner, Jr. - the youngest of the three men to sign the front pastedown. Sold with our consigner's letter of provenance.
