39. WILLIAM A. WASHINGTON George Washington's nephew, the eldest son of George's half-brother Augustine. Rare A.E.S. "Wm. A. Washington" penned on the verso of partly-printed obligation, Richmond Co., Va., Jan. 1, 1788, in which John W. Willis of Spotsylvania borrows the sum of 212 p[ounds] from Washington. On the verso Washington writes: "We do agree to demand no Interest on this Bond if the within mentioned sum of One Hundred and Six pounds, five shillings be paid on or before the 1st day of January next". Nicely signed, and also signed by co-lender JOHN FAUNTLEROY and borrower JOHN W. WILLIS. Weak folds, one of which has been reinforced with archival tape, some age stoning, still overall very good. $150-200
