JOHN WALLEY (1644 - 1712) American soldier who commanded the first expedition against the French and Indians in Canada in 1689 during King William's War, participated in a second expedition as lieutenant of Sir William Phips in the 1690 landing near Quebec with 1,200 men, but failed to make any significant gain. Rare D.S. 1p. 12mo., Boston, May 8, 1708, a receipt for fifty bushels of wheat and other items, boldly signed at conclusion. Mounted, very good. One can make the claim that Walley led America's first organized, armed expedition abroad! $300-400
