Myers offers his congratulations to Bailey for his successful role in the New Orleans campaign. In part: ‘…I was delighted to hear that you had honorably discharged your duty in the very handsome honorable and dangerous position in which you were placed as second in Command of the fleet of the attacking party and that you have had the good fortune to escape unhurt. It must be highly gratifying to you who have been so long in the Navy & performed so much sea service to have been placed in a command furnishing you an opportunity to show your bravery as well as skill as an officer. I hope you will find the duty of Commander of the Navy Yard at Sacketts Harbor a pleasant and agreeable command…' He signs ‘M Myers' in black ink at the conclusion.
