UNION GENERALS
A pair of letters by prominent Union generals, includes: EDWARD D. TOWNSEND (1817 - 1893) Union brevet brigadier general and chief of staff to Winfield Scott. A.L.S. "E. D. Townsend" on War Department letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Apr. 16, 1877, in part: "...David C. Coleman was mustered into service as a first lieutenant 8th Missouri Volunteer Infantry July 4th, 1861...". Very good. With ALEXANDER B. DYER (1815 - 1874) Union brevet major general who invented the "Dyer" shell and worked at the Springfield Armory throughout the war. A.L.S. "A. B. Dyer" adding rank on Ordnance Office letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Feb. 10, 1867 to A. Hitchcock, in full: "No mountain howitzers for sale". Very good condition, two items.
