Description:

UNION CAP BOX RECOVERED AT GETTYSBURG, WITH EARLY TAG
A fine relic from the monumental conflict at Gettysburg, a Union cap box recovered from the field with period provenance. The cap box still bears both belt loops and brass fixing stud intact, the leather pull strap used to close the box is partly lost. Within the box is a portion of a period lady's calling card, and upon the verso is written: "Found on the Battle Field of Gettysburg, Pa.", also in a contemporary hand. Within the capbox were two minie balls, although it is doubtful they were in the box at the time of its recovery.
