U.S. WORLD WAR II SUBMARINE LAUNCHING COVERS A large and superb collection of over 190 covers commemorating the launches of American submarines (and several warships) during the Second World War, most of which are postmarked on either dates of keel laying, commission, or launching. Many cover feature elaborate cachets with raised lettering, while others include affixed black and white photographs of the submarines that saw service in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters including (with variants and some multiples) USS Thresher, Guardfish, Tautog, Gar, Grampus, Grayback, Albacore, Grunion, Haddo, Lapon, Sargo, Perch, Seal, Sealion, Seadragon, Grouper, Gurnard, Amberjack, Barb, Saury, Hoe, Bashaw, Gunnel, Hake, Greenling, Gato, Mackerel, Corvina, Flounder, Mingo, Tambor, Harder, Lapone, Jack, Sailfish, Kipjack, Bluefish and others. The group also includes covers for several surface ship launches including the USS Battleships Iowa, Indiana, Massachusetts, as well as the USS Jenkins, Sigsbee, Jeffers, Buchanan, Duncan, Glennon, Rodman, Aaaron Ward, Atlanta, Lansdowne, Bristol, Atlanta, Corry, Kearny, Macomb, San Diego, Emmons, and others.
