1057. HARRY S. TRUMAN (1884-1972) 33rd President of the United States who led the country in the closing days of World War II and through the re-building of Europe under the Marshall Plan and the Korean War. Unusual S.P. "Best wishes from / Harry S. Truman / USS Mo." on the photographer's mount below the image, a distinguished bust-length pose while U.S. Senator from Missouri [1935-1945], by Underwood and Underwood. A half-tone image, most probably signed by Truman during World War II. Image 8" x 6 1/2" on mount 14" x 11", in original embossed Underwood and Underwood folder. Truman became popular with autograph collectors after the 1941 Democratic convention when he was nominated as Vice President candidate on the ticket with Franklin D. Roosevelt. $300-400
