Description:

(TITANIC VICTIM) AFRED G. ROWE
(1853 - 1912) British-born Texas rancher, his body was recovered by the Cable Ship MACKAY-BENNETT. Pair of rare items, includes Rowe's personal calling card, believed to have been recovered from his body following the sinking. The 3" x 1 1/2" card bears Rowe's name and London street address and is irregularly toned. According to our consignor, noted Titanic collector Brian Green, this card was sold with a small archive of items belonging to Rowe, including a letter sent by him while aboard the vessel, by British Titanic specialist auctioneers Henry Aldridge & Son in 2007. Also included is an A.L.S. by Rowe "Alfred Rowe", 2pp. 8vo., London, Mar. 6, 1912, just five weeks before his death, send to "Charlie". In part: "You have not lost...my valuable picture...of what a shooter should not so...the fellow who shot his unfortunate groom in the head the other day while uncocking his hammer...Your very interesting family will be together only to disperse again..." and recommends "Foundations of the 19th Century by Chamberlain...". A few toned spots on verso, else very good.
