Description:

THOMAS A. EDISON
(1847 - 1931) American inventor of the electric light, phonograph, typewriter, and microphone, to name a few. Considered perhaps the greatest inventor of the century. A fine signed conclusion to a letter written and signed by MINA MILLER EDISON (1865-1947) "Mother" to their first child, Madeleine, 3pp. 8vo., Glenmont, [n.d., ca. 1905], then in college at Bryn Mawr. In part: "...Please try not to work so hard. Papa thinks a very little law will do but does not care for you to go into it deeply. However, when you come up we can talk matters over...Will the girls remain with you until Tuesday and are you to return by early train...Now don't work too hard and worrk over your examinations...yesterday, Charles, Miss Hess and I heard Carmen at the Manhattan...Papa backed out at the last minute as usual...". At the conclusion, Edison adds his two bits in his distinctive hand: "Hope you got thru your examinations OK - glad to hear that the phonograph dance music was a success. daddy E.". Very good condition. MADELEINE EDISON, nicknamed "Toots" by her relatives, was born May 31, 1888, the first Edison child to be born at Glenmont. Madeleine and her aviator husband John Sloane had four sons, who happened to be Thomas Edison's only grandchildren from either marriage. EBAY 800
