48. SURRENDER OF CORNWALLIS An important newspaper, The Connecticut Gazette, 4pp. large 4to., New London, Nov. 2, 1781, reporting on Gen. Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown on page three. It reads in part: "...A cessation of Arms took place on Wednesday the 17th, in consequence of Proposals from Lord Cornwallis for a Capitulation. His Lordship proposed a Cessation of Arms for 24 Hours, but 2 only were granted by his Excellency General Washington. The Articles of Capitulation were completed the same day...the British Army, under a strong Escort, marched for Maryland...". More good content. A 3" clean tear at center of front page, split between leaves, else very good, in custom slipcase. $300-400
