Fine content A.L.S., 3pp. 8vo., Chicago, Oct. 20, 1873 to his fellow general and Civil War veteran, Irvin McDowell, commenting on the arrival of a sash, possibly a part of his uniform or for ceremonial purposes. In part: "...The sash came when I was out west hence the delay in acknowledging its arrival. It is very pretty but I cannot make up my mind to fully like it. It seems to be a little too broad, don't you think so. Then it looks a little oddfellowish..." Very good. $300-400
