War-date D.S., 1p. oblomg 8vo., 'Camp Steenrapic' (near present day Paramus, NJ), Sep. 15, 1780, a pay order: 'Please to pay Colonel Rufus Putnam the whole Sum due to me as a Soldier in the 6th Massachusetts Regiment (on Account of the Depreciation of Currency) up to the first of January last...' Putnam boldly signs the verso, indicating his receipt of the funds. Mounting strip on verso of left margin, else very good.
