ROBERT ANDERSON
(1805 - 1871) Union brigadier general, the "Hero of Fort Sumter", who refused Confederate demands to surrender the fort and ultimately endured two days of bombardment before capitulating. Excellent S.P. signed twice, 2 1/2" x 4", a chest, up pose in uniform, signed at bottom: "Robert Anderson Major Gen. U.S.A.", also bearing an inscription on verso: "For Mrs. Geo. Griswold from her friend Robert Anderson Dresden July 4th, 1869". Small smudge at lower-right on verso, else very good. Sold with a 4" x 5" lithograph of Anderson's wife, Eba, set into a period gilt and black painted decorative wooden wood frame. Two pieces.
